From my one-month practicum, I learned a lot from my experiences. Our student buddies helped us. Because of them, we appreciate the beauty of Indonesia and I understood more the value of cultural diversity. We learn some basics in Bahasa, how to commute, how to approach student. With that, I see the similarities and differences of the Indonesian and Filipino Culture. I learn different cultures not only in Indonesia, but also in Thailand and in other regions of the Philippines through my co-SEA Teacher participants. Indeed, I really appreciate the uniqueness of every culture. Even we differ in cultures, we unite ourselves as one humanity.

Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia followed the weeks for practice teaching. In the first week, I had our school orientation and observation. This phase gave us an encounter with the educational system of Indonesia. We encounter the teachers and pupils in their teaching and learning activities. We are oriented on the appropriate approaches to have an interactive lesson in the class. In the second week, we assist our cooperating teachers in the class by facilitating the pupils. We also help for the needs of the pupils. In the third week, we started our practice teaching. We prepared lesson plans, and teach the students in our given International subjects. Every after teaching, my cooperating teachers gave me feedbacks for my improvement and for the preparation of my final demo. I prepared a lot for my final demo in the fourth week. I made a detailed lesson plan, practiced my teaching strategies, and prepared materials and reinforcers needed for the lesson. I was observed by Miss Ana Fitri, coordinator of Pelita Nusantara, Ms. Nara Pasilaban, my cooperating teacher, and Sir Asep, my mentor from UPI. Even I was nervous, I showed to them that I am ready, and I will make my students participate in my lesson.

From my teaching experience, I gain a new perspective. Let us always achieve our goal – no one will be left behind. I always bear in my mind that it is my duty to make my pupils learn and apply it in their daily lives. It was a great experience to encounter participative pupils. With that, I always feel that my heart is always with them. I consider them as my kids. Learning is not only based from the books. It is also through our daily experiences, and our good relationship between the teacher and the pupils.

I am glad because I became part of the SEA Teacher Project – 7th Batch, and I am one of the pioneering SEA Teachers from Universidad de Sta. Isabel in Naga City Philippines, bringing the Vincentian way of teaching, and lifelong learning. Hoping to have a better SEA Teacher Projects for the next batches to come. Kudos SEA Teachers! Kudos SEAMEO! Kudos Southeast Asia!

Maraming Salamat po! Terima kasih!
